Summary
The exchange of energy and water between two textile manufacturers, Pharr Holland and Ames Europe, and their neighbour companies, could benefit the companies and the environment. The potentials have been investigated. Subjects of the study were the reuse of waste heat, joint storage of heat and cold, joint generation of electricity and heat, and up-heat of cooling water for reuse. The outcome of the feasibility study is that reuse of cooling water from SKF by Pharr Holland has a payback time of less than 3 years. The usage of waste heat has the same payback period for Pharr Holland. Both options lead to a respective energy conservation of 3 and 4% in relation to the total energy demand of the company. Joint generation of electricity and heat delivers a far bigger energy efficiency improvement of approximately 22%. In that case the payback period is less favourable: approximately 6 years.
