Summary

Jonkman Coating operates three muffle-furnaces to harden powder coatings and wet lacquers. The coated products are transported through the furnace by a conveyer belt with steel chains. Stork Engineering has executed a study on the energy management and the load of the muffle-furnaces. The branch organisation VISEM has been jointly involved in the study. Important improvements, resulting in energy savings are: elongation of the furnaces, enlargement of the packing and minimization of the entry and the exit of the furnace. The total of these measures provides a saving of approximate 56,000 Nm³ natural gas per year. This is 40% of the current energy consumption. In financial terms, this energy saving corresponds with approximate € 20,500 pro year. In the case of Jonkman Coating, the energy saving is not sufficient to justify the investment in the three projects. In case of grass root, the investment really becomes cost-effective.
