Summary

At the end of 1998, Deege Coating Industrie BV (a company specialising in electrostatic powder coating of various kinds of metal surfaces) opened a new production plant in Klundert (Moerdijk). This new plant combines output from 3 former production facilities (Rotterdam, Geldermalsen and Etten-Leur).
Deege Coating Industrie BV has optimised the production process in various ways at its new production facility in Klundert (shortening the time required for changing pigments, splitting up the baking kiln into a booster section and a muffling section, and applying process-integrated measurement of the thickness of the fixed coating layer). These innovative modifications of the production process enabled Deege Coating Industrie BV to achieve improvements in energy efficiency in 1999 of more than 20%, compared with the average energy efficiency obtained in 1998. In addition, the modifications in question allow process control to be further improved and the consumption of coating powders (raw material) to be minimised.
At average energy prices, the payback period of the additional investment costs needed for the innovative installations (compared with the outlay for a conventional system) will be about 3 years.
