Platform for Chain Efficiency

Climate benefits can be achieved by making the production of goods more efficient. When producing goods many different raw materials are required, a lot of energy is used and substances hazardous for men and environment are emitted.

By making product chains as well as production chains more sustainable from an energy point of view, CO2 emissions can be reduced, energy and materials can be saved and less harm is caused to the environment. Great savings can be achieved by critically examining the entire product- and production chains.

Together with the business community, the Platform for Chain Efficiency is looking for experiments in both the product chains and production chains. The experiments are supposed to show what it means to improve the sustainability of energy housekeeping. In this way, the Platform aims to motivate businesses to be more aware of sustainability and to operate in a more sustainable way. These experiments can lead to a real improvement in the sustainability of industrial production. Dutch businesses are supposed to take the lead in the energy transition.

Studies have shown that a number of production chains have the potential to grow into realistic routes towards more sustainable industrial production. These chains are represented in three transition paths; the Platform is planning to work on these paths in partnership with the stakeholders. The ambition of the Platform is to achieve an additional efficiency improvement of 20% for the Netherlands in 2020.
