Welcome to the Energy Transition website where you can learn how Dutch energy policy is realizing a sustainable national energy economy. The need for such a change is simple: the Netherlands depends almost entirely on oil that is supplied by countries outside the EU. This makes the Netherlands vulnerable, and we spend billions of euros extra as oil prices increase. Furthermore, the emissions from fossil fuels are hazardous.
Altogether, seven themes have been defined on which Energy Transition should focus in order to realise a sustainable energy supply. These have been chosen because they offer the Netherlands considerable economic opportunities and are feasible for this country. A platform has been set up for each theme:
Sustainable Mobility Platform
Biobased Raw Materials Platform
New Gas Platform
Platform for Chain Efficiency
Sustainable Electricity Supply Platform
Energy in the Built Environment Platform
The ‘Greenhouse as Energy Source’ Platform
Realizing a sustainable national energy economy requires a new innovative way of thinking and acting—in economic, technological, and socio-cultural terms. The Netherlands chooses to use a transition approach. In this approach, we see that changes are not only necessary but they also create opportunities.
